This past Sunday we celebrated our five year anniversary at Lou & Mickey's, a spot we've always said we should try and which I had added to my list of 25 restaurants. We picked the perfect time to eat, between lunch and dinner, so that there was no wait and barely any people except what looked like a small handful of tourists. I was disappointed to find that the yogurt shop next to the Hard Rock Hotel had closed across the street, so my froyo dessert plans were somewhat ruined. Though that didn't stop me from enjoying the cocktail shrimp, mussels, steak, and steamed veggies with wine and beer to wash it all down. I was even able to squeeze in the most delicious crab bisque I've had to date. Luckily I ran 7 miles that day, even though I was suppose to run 11. It was so hard not to do more, but recovery time was much needed. Of course, what's the point of being downtown without a stroll through the Gaslamp? We wouldn't have found Italian gelato otherwise, and I was more than happy to discover that a 3.5 ounce cup of hazelnut gelato is only 170 calories. Yup, this girl is having to count calories since a few less pounds could make me a few minutes faster. The good thing is that I'm only competing against myself.
