I once defined this space as my creative outlet, an escape from deployment at sea and a distraction from stress. It was a place where I shared my love for all things fashion, and it was also a way for me to draw inspiration from others. Since then, my focus has changed dramatically. While I've always shared personal tidbits of my life, I've found a deep sense of satisfaction and contentment from turning it into more of my journal. While it doesn't draw as much traffic whenever I share poetry or less popular topics, I can't help but think that some day, fashion blogging, for me at least, might lose its luster. Oh, I'll still be interested in what other people are wearing and how to wear a shirt three different ways, but maintaining the energy for creating "blog-worthy" outfits is not realistic for me. I don't know how anyone can fashion blog, maintain a social life, and a full time job with any consistency, but this life I've chosen takes over everything sometimes. At some point the curtain may fall. Luckily, lots of good has come from this experience. Such as finding inexpensive shopping options and online secondhand shops. This dress I wore three times in the last two weeks is actually from Modcloth, but I only paid a sweet $11 for it! I love the retro feel it has, and it is very easy to wear and change up. It's definitely a piece that won't be making it into my "donate pile" at the end of this month!
ı agree with you, ı often get tired of outfit posts and fashion stuff, but i keep doing it cos ıt, for me, is an escape from work etc. By the way, I love the metric song help, i'm alive. :)
ReplyDeleteFeels good to here this point of view, I like fashion blogging but I'm still not too sure if its the thing for me, time will tell. Meanwhile it's great knowing that others are feeling an interest in blogging other things as well. I don't ever want it to be all about what I look like...I just wanna write honestly :)
ReplyDeleteI admit that blogging can be exhausting at times! But the pros still outweigh the cons which is why I continue to do it :)

Hello Jessica, I think I can relate to what you're saying. I just started to really focus on the Beautiful Rache blog this but I've had a couple of blogs about different things (weddings, dogs, shops) but I must say I never post my outfits before. I actually dared not because I know that there a lot of stunning fashion blogs and the photos, gosh, so pro! But then, I actually enjoy dressing up and blogging about outfits is a good excuse to take snapshots of yourself and post it for everyone to see. I feel really happy about my thrift finds and it's a nice feeling to be able to share it with other girls who also want to spend their money wisely while looking great :) So, that's why I started to blog about outfits. But I only stay at home most days of the week so it's not a daily thing for me. And while I used to avoid sharing bits of my life on my previous blogs, I think I am slowly tearing up that wall and it actually feels nice :) Gosh, I really got caught up with it huh, Guess, one of these days I should write about this. Thanks Jess:) btw, i do like the dress, i love vintage florals!
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower of The GFC Collective. I'm looking forward for you to follow back and I'll certainly be coming here for more of your future posts :)
ReplyDeleteBlogging will be so much fun with all the virtual friends around. Take care!
I love your yellow flats - and that dress! It's cute - no matter what! So pretty on you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty dress - and I know what you mean about blogging, it's a fun little hobby but it takes up a ton of time and is a load of hard work!
ReplyDeleteAs you know, I went through my own blogging evolution and it's about so much more than fashion now. I feel uncomfortable being anything but 100% authentic and that's true for my writing as well. I couldn't narrow down or censor my life -- it all has to be included! (Well, not everything -- some stuff should be kept personal -- but most of my life really is on there.) So, I totally know what you mean. And I love the dress -- the price ain't bad either! Can't wait to visit you in a couple weeks!!
ReplyDeleteI feel ya, there are some days when I just feel like throwing in the towel. But then I remember how much I love blogging and the creative release it gives me. On another note, I want that dress!
ReplyDeleteAnd it is a super cute dress! I wish the weather in Canada was nice enough for a dress like that. I agree with you, my blog is more of a journal, more rambling and I don't have the time or ability to do "life" alongside a fashion blog or something similar. But it's nice to have a place online that is "yours" and I really think you're brave for sharing your poetry and showing your inner self and creative side, it's wonderful.
